説明

An amorphous calcium carbonate was produced by drying the powdery or gelatinous phases which precipitated from the reaction of CaO-H2O-CO2-HOCH2CH2OH-C2H5OH system. In the present work, the synthetic conditions and characteristics of the products were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis (TG-DTA), electron microscopic observation, chemical analysis, measurements of specific surface area and solubility.
The powdery or gelatinous phases were prepared by passing CO2 at a flow rate of above 100 ml/ min into the suspensions containing less than 10 g CaO or 6 g Ca (OH) 2 in mixing solution 90 ml of ethanol and 10 ml of ethylene glycol. By rapid filtrating and drying the both phases at 60°C under reduced pressure, the phases converted to the amorphous phase. Also the powdery phase deposited in the process of early reaction before gelation and the filtration of the reactant was remarkably facilitated contrary to that of the gelatinous phase. However the properties of the both phases resembled so that this work was mainly investigated by using the amorphous phase obtained by drying or heating the powdery phase. The amorphous phases containing small amounts of C2H5O- and HCO3- was converted rapidly to calcite by heating above 250°C or by immersing in water but was stable in desiccator over a long time.
In comparison with ordinary calcium carbonate, the specific characteristics of the amorphous calcium carbonate obtained by heating at 200°C, could be expected for new functional materials such as absorbent, medicine and carbonated drink besides filler of composite materials.
