Description

To obtain the fundamental dada of hardening in Kanto loam-lime stabilization, we investigated its hardening by means of the identification of the reaction products and the measurement of its physical properties.
The results are summarized as follows ;
(1) Reaction products in Kanto loam-lime stabilization were recognized tetracalcium aluminate 13-hydrate (4CaO·Al2O3·13H2O) and dicalcium aluminate silicate 8-hydrate (2CaO·SiO2·Al2O3·8H2O) at the early stages, and thereafter calcium silicate hydrates.
(2) The compressive strength of Kanto loam-lime stabilization specimen increased with the reaction time. From this result, it is supposed that there might be some close correlation between the strength and the reaction products.
(3) The structure of Kanto loam dealt with quick lime showed a tendency of aggregation, but considering the test results concerning the specific surface area, the treatment of lime seems to contribute the strength development of the loam.
(4) Hardening in Kanto loam-lime stabilization depends on the composition of clay minerals in Kanto loam, and especially hydrated halloysite seems important for strength development.
