Description

(1) This is an experiment in which the properties of remolded samples were compared those of undisturbed samples by compression and permeability tests, under the presumption that the consolidation of volcanic ash soils, which have a high degree structure, will be more effective when it is compressed after disturbing the structure.
(2) As the compression pressure exceeded a certain value (about 2 kg/cm2 in this experiment), remolded samples were more compressed, and thelr bulk density increased.
(3) It was clarified that permeability is not always small in firmly consolidated remolded samples.
(4) The fact that the permeability is not always smll in remolded samples in spite of their higher bulk density as compared with undisturbed samples is supposed to be owing to the decrease of imbibisional water in the volcanic ash soils through air drying treatment.
