Abstract

Object
An Apparatus to measure reciprocating friction has been devised and some experiments have been made on textile yarn with it.
Results
A cylinder-suspended pendulum system produces a reciprocating friction between yarn and the cylinder surface. It is detected and recorded by the apparatus with a strain meter. By measuring the yarn friction, we examined an auto-correlative effect and found there was a difference between multi-filament and monofilament in the effects produced on friction by the load and by the number of yarns contacting with the cylinder surface.
The friction-lowering effects of afterwaxing in the sizing process were looked into.
