In the last decades, China has experienced a rapid process of urbanization, accompanied by a large flow of population migration. It is recognized that large amount of population migration and urbanization would bring impacts on regional environment. These impacts may cover many aspects, such as water use, energy consumption, land use change and pollution, etc. This paper focuses on domestic water use issue as an example.<BR>Firstly, the mechanism of population migration is examined by using both nationwide time-series data and 2000 Census data. Secondly, alternative scenarios of economic development, population migration and urbanization in China until year 2020 are formulated, assuming socio-economic and policy scenarios in the future. Finally, impact of population migration on domestic water use is evaluated.
