Abstract
The author attempts to deconstruct animal patterns in ancient Japanese wooden buildings into the various logarithmic spirals that constituted the patterns so as to analyze the composition of these patterns with CAD. To date, no such analysis has been performed on Japanese ancient buildings. This study indicates the definite possibility to reproduce the outlines of various design patterns by using the composition of the logarithmic spirals. <br>In Japanese traditional architectural design the logarithmic spirals expressed the intention of creators by deconstructing and reconstructing the beauty of these natural patterns. Due to the logarithmic spiral's antipodal characteristics, both straight lines and curved lines were used. It is confirmed that the logarithmic spirals can create the various basic patterns by repeating similar figures and thereby, evoke the viewers' consciousness.
