Description

The aim of the present study was to separate aesthetic evaluation base on cognitive aesthetics (goodness, liking) from those based on hedonic tones (beauty, pleasantness), and to explore individual differences in those evaluations. We especially focused on the aesthetic dimension of value as individual differences in evaluations based on cognitive aesthetics. 89 undergraduates ware asked to rate aesthetic evaluations of 6 paintings (including 3 painting where beautiful objects ware drawn and 3 paintings where ugly objects ware drawn) using 4 items of evaluations (beautiful, pleasant, good and likable). They were also asked to complete a questionnaire assessing their degree of aesthetic dimension of value. Results demonstrated that the aesthetic dimension of value didn't relate to evaluations based on hedonic tones, but it significantly related to those based on cognitive aesthetics.
