Description

As a poster designer, A.M.Cassandre had an active career based in France from the second half of the 1920's through the late-30's. His work well demonstrates a geometrical structure distinctive of the era. This article is to examine, mathematically analyze, and systematize his technique and design theory in poster production. It also aims to prove that his layout method was not merely decorative but a functional technique with a theoretical basis through computer use, especially for the duplication and analysis of the method. In conclusion, it is recognized that his design was an application of geometry supported by functionalism. At the same time, this article clarifies that printing materials and a certain approach to printing technology led him to provide and develop this unique method.
