Abstract
The introduction of care volunteers at residential care facilities for the elderly should be considered an important issue as their work is regarded to the solution of nursing short-staffed problem. This study aims to investigate elderly resident's behaviors when care is received from part of both groups: the care volunteers and the nursing staffs. Results obtained in this study had evidenced that: 1) Care volunteers have demonstrated more carefully and detailed work as they spend long time talking with elderly residents. 2) Care volunteers have performed their work over long distances in comparison with nursing staffs. 3) In comparison with nursing staffs, care volunteers have carried out a high level care to elderly residents. In this way, although care volunteers are not experts in the care field, their work has evidenced a positive effect on older people living in residential care facilities.
