Abstract

From the view point of a product as "an interactive object", a study on Human-Computer-Interaction was carried out by D. A. Norman's theory. Through the protocol analysis on "Electronic organizer", following points were developed about the cognitive models on product operation. 1) A user's operation can be described by the "Seven stages of action (D. A. Norman 1990)". 2) A user's operation to achieve subgoal can be described by the "Seven stages of action". 3) A user uses "knowledge in the world (D. A. Norman 1990)" to operate the system. These points on cognitive model can be applied to interface design. a) Design on each stage of "Seven stages of action". b) Design each operation achieving goal and subgoal. c) Design the useful "knowledge in the world" onto a product.
