Abstract
The author discusses the difference between climatology and meteorology based on the literature as well as on his own ideas. Climatology is the science of weather as it connects with human beings, while meteorology is weather science without reference to humanbeings.<br> Climatology, therefore, should have its “raison d'ê tre” (reason for being) as one of the physical geographies, or geography itself. The “raison d'ê tre” could be certified by the 5th Category of Terjung's System-Analysis, which is named the “Physical-Human Process-Response System”. The author illustrates such a control system by introducing three concrete examples of climatological studies. One of them is “urban climatology” as described by Terjung. The other is manifested in “disaster climatology, ” one example of which is drought climate recorded in annual tree-rings. “Studies on climatic resources” can be considered one of the geographical climatologies, because they rely on the climatological ideas in the traditional methods of natural-energy utilization.
