Abstract
The relationship between the genomes A (x=8) and B (x=9) of Scilla scilloides complex has been studied in F1 hybrids (AB, 2n=17) between the two diploid types AA (2n=16) and BB (2n=18).<br>Pairing of chromosomes is variable among PMCs, the maximum number of bivalents per cell being 8. Some bivalents are clearly heteromorphic. The pairing of chromosomes in PMCs revealed that the genomes A and B are segmentally homologous, although they are karyotypically well differentiated.<br>A scheme is presented to interpret how the genome A has been differentiated from the genome B by translocation, inversions, and loss of a centromere.
