Description
Hitachinaka Port has been developed not only as a key port for the distribution of goods in the northern Kantou area but also as a supply port for the power station which serves electricity to the Tokyo Metropolitan area. Construction of Eastern Breakwater was commenced in 1992 and is under construction at approx. 3 km offshore. The breakwater has been planned as the main structure facility protect the Port area from the severe marine conditions. Water depth of the project area is as deep as 25 meters and the Caissons are installed on the rubble stone mound. The dimension of caisson is 30 m long, 25 m wide and 22 m high, being one of the biggest RC type caisson ever built and weighing 7 500 tons.<BR>Superstructure is tilted towards to the shore side in order to reduce the lateral force of the wave. Prefabricated and standardized reinforcement is introduced to achieve mass and rapid production of the caissons. The reinforcement is prefabricated on 1 and as a panel and those panels are combined at the caisson yard. An own concrete batching plant has been set up to meet with the peak requirement for base slab concreting which reaches to 1 000 cubic meters per day.
