Abstract

Simple reaction times (SRTs) and choice reaction times (CRTs) for mentally retarded (MR) children and normal (N) children matched on MA were analyzed. The main results were as follows; 1) In SRT experiments, there were great RT differences between MR group and N group, but in CRT experiments, no significant CRT differences between them were noticed. 2) Between MR-C group, selected from MR group by the condition that the members were the same SRT level that N group members, and N group, no significant differences in CRTs were seen. It was inferred that MA 5-8 N children responded on the same way of MR children in CRT tasks that demanded higher mental activities.
