Abstract

The duodenal papilla was immunohistochemically investigated by cytokeratin and mucin. The duodenal papilla was obtained from 21 pancreatoduodenectomized materials, resected for pancreatobiliary diseases. The pancreatic duct, bile duct and common channel were immunopositive for CK 7, CK 18 and CK 20, while the ductues of the pancreas and the duodenal mucosae were immunoreactive for CK 5 and CK 20, respectively. So-called overreplacement, or distended glands, of the duodenum were found in 6 out 21 cases, and were immunoreactive for CK 7, CK 18 and CK 19, and MUC 5 AC, although it existed in the inside of the duodenum.<BR>Therefore, immunoreactivity for cytokeratin on the duo denal papilla was represented by CK 7 for the pancreatic duct, bile duct, common channel, and CK 20 for the duodenal mucosa. Overreplacemerit of the duodenum was immunoreactive for the former CK 7, resulting in preserving the character of the pancreatic duct, bile duct, or common channel.
