Description
Wet grinding of kaolin was carried out mechanically in water, by using a centrifugal rotating.type ball mill.
In grinding operation, the following three conditions were used : (1) four different rotating numbers of ball mill, (2) five different alumina ball amounts, and (3) five different amounts of kaolin.
Stainless steel modified-kaolin obtained was examined by X-ray analysis, zeta potential, and scanning electron microscopy.
From the above experimental data, the kinetic mechanism in wet grinding of kaolin in water was discussed and the following facts were found out :
(1) Zeta potential measurement would be useful as the systematic evaluation for both the grinding degree of kaolin and content of stainless steel powder on kaolin surface.
(2) The proposed analytical methods I and II were recognized to be applicable for the evaluation of kinetic mechanism in wet grinding of kaolin by zeta potential.
