Description

Wet grinding of kaolin was mechanically ground in 50% (v/v) ethyl alcohol aqueous solution, by using a centrifugal rotating type ball mill.
In grinding operation the following influence or effects were observed at the given conditions : (1) four different rotating numbers of ball mill, (2) five different alumina ball numbers, and (3) five different amounts of kaolin.
Modified kaolin was examined by X-ray analysis, zeta potential, and tinting strength.
From the above experimental data, the kinetic mechanism in wet grinding of kaolin was discussed and the following facts were found out :
(1) Zeta potential measurement would be useful as the systematic evaluation for both the grinding degree of kaolin and content of stainless steel powder on the kaolin surface.
(2) The proposed analytical method II was recognized to be applicable for the evaluation of kinetic mechanism in wet grinding of kaolin by zeta potential.
(3) By the proposed analytical method II for wet grinding process of kaolin, the existence of three regions, such as grinding induced region, transition grinding region, and steady state region was clearly found.
