Description

Properties of three kinds of isocyanurate polyisocyanates, of which molecular weights and distributions of oligomers with isocyanurate ring were different, were studied. The isocyanurate polyisocyanates showed excellent solubility in nonpolar hydrocarbon solvent, but poor compatibility with acrylic polyol compared with biuret and adduct polyisocyanates.
The reactions of isocyanurate polyisocyanates with acrylic polyols and the properties of the resulting films were examined in detail. Glass transition temperatures of the films, produced in equivalent ratio of isocyanurate polyisocyanates and acrylic polyols at room temperature under dry condition, were almost identical regardless of their molecular weights and distribution of oligomers with isocyanurate ring. The initial modulus of films produced from isocyanurate polyisocyanates with acrylic polyols in the presence of dibutyltindilaurate as a catalyst were greater than those other of the polyisocyanates.
It is expected that the nonpolar solvent system based on two-component polyurethane resin using isocyanurate polyisocyanate easily gives the network polymer restrained the formation of urea linkage as a side reaction.
