Description

The surface analysis of acrylic coating films was carried out by the method using valence band spectra of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.<BR>The surface composition of casted films from binary acrylic copolymers and mixture of homopolymers was determined by this method. In the case of cross-linked films from aclylic resin with hydroxy group and melamine formaldehyde resin, the surface composition analysis was very difficult due to the complicated changes of the valence band spectra by the cross-linking reaction. In addition, it was shown that the valence band spectra method was effective to detect the un-cross-linked ingredients which locally existed on the surface of cross-linked films.
