Abstract

Most doctors in universities and hospitals have depended on the services of medical representatives from pharmaceutical companies in the respect of document retrieval, acquisition of document copy and slide preparation for meetings etc., as if it were the custom. Since April in 1993, however, self restraint of these services started as they were considered to be beyond the restriction for service supply defined by Fair Trade Conference for Ethical Drug Manufacture consisting of 242 member companies. As a result, terminal computers for on-line retrieval and CD-ROM retrieval were introduced in most hospital libraries. Thus, an enormous number of request to make a document copy reached the libraries, resulting in not a little confusion of the daily work of their staffs. For the purpose to catch the actual conditions, a questionnaire investigation was made and the answers were recovered from 262 facilities. We present the results in this paper.
