Description

This paper describes a development process of telecommunication networks in their major fields of computer networks. Telecommunication networks are categorized into three areas, namely, LAN, WAN and VAN. Thier definitions, growth process, curren functions or services available are presented by using graphs. Some institutional differences of VAN services between the USA and Japan and current issues are cleared up. Near future trends of telecommunication networks and seamless network as an integrated form of LAN and WAN are mentioned.
