In a review of the literature we have been unable to find any reports With the title “tuberculoma of the bladdder”, except 1 case reported by Bowen & Bennett in 1930. The case of our own is following.
A female, aged 64 years. Chief complaints: Dysuria and hematuria.
On the physical examination was the solid tumor palpable bimanually on the left side of bladder region. Cystoscopic examination showed the spherical, pedunculated, white coloured tumor with the size of pigeon's egg, situated in the left posterior wall. On pneumoand contrast-cystogram, respectively the tumor shadow or filling defect at the same site of the bladder was assured. (Fig. 1 and 2) Excretory urography revealed dilated pelvis and calyces at the left side 5 minutes after the injection, but no excretion of the radiopaque media at the right side was shown after 20 minutes. (Fig. 3) Tuberculous bacillus in the urine is always negative.
Neoplasm of the bladder was suspected and partial resection of the bladder wall with the tumor was performed. (Fig. 4)
Histologically the extirpated tumor showed a widespread inflammatory process, characterized by areas of necrosis, lymphoid and epitheloid cell infiltration and the presence of giant cells, as well as manifest capillarectasia, but the acid-fast bacillus could not be proved elsewhere. (Fig. 5 and 6)
The wound healed slowly because of persistent urinary drainage due to the reduced size of the bladder, and six months later she was discharged from the hospital.
