Abstract

In this paper, authors study about the performance of barrier type fender system against the ship collision. This new type of fender system makes use of the drag force of sinkers which slide on the sea bed. So at first authors investigated the drag force by towing the sinkers particularly. It was experimented by various initial condition, but the drag coefficient of steady state was not changed regardless of extent of burying in the ground, sinker weight, towing speed and towing point. Next in order to confirm the effectiveness of this fender system, model ship had been collided with this fender system. Measured value of moving distance of the sinkers came to a good agreement with calculated value which is formulated by momentum theory.
