Description
The pocket ear (cryptotia) is often seen in Japanese and uncommon in European and American.<BR>Although various methods have been used correcting this deformity, the author has used a new surgical technique. The procedures are as follows: 1) An incision is made from the site of the anterior attachment of the helix posteriorly along the hair line to the retroauricular attachment. 2) After detaching upper portion of the auricle from the head, the auricle is fixed by sutures slightly projecting from the head. 3) Deformities of the cartilage are corrected by incisions. 4) The temporal skin is folded around the medial side of the auricle loosely. 5) The skin defect on the temporal and the auricle is covered separately by using two sheets of free full thickness skin graft.
