Description

This paper is concerned with a new method for assigning students to departments at Tokyo Institute of Technology using a linear programming formulation to improve the overall satisfaction of students. The basic idea is to use the geometric mean of the standardized record of exams and the degree of satisfaction of students as the data for defining the score of assignment and improve the overall satisfaction by maximizing the sum of scores obtained by each students. The result of simulation using real data shows that this method has a substantial effect on improving satisfaction of students.
