PATENTSCOPE, WIPO's patent information database available online free of charge, holds more than 2.2 million PCT data and national/regional patent information. The total collection amounts to almost 30 million and is increasing. PATENTSCOPE allows users flexible retrieval with Boolean operators, wildcard and proximity operators. It can easily visualize search results in the form of tables and graphs. In order to achieve efficient retrieval on patent documents in different languages, PATENTSCOPE provides unique functions of Cross Lingual Information Retrieval, which automatically translates inputted queries into 12 languages. In this article, an overview of PATENTSCOPE is presented.
