Abstract
It is important for good research assessment that we should have objective and quantitative indices to ensure appropriate allocation from the limited research fund. Impact factor has been misused for the assessment of individual researchers and affiliations though it was developed for evaluating scientific journals. The h-index was introduced as an alternative index which was statistically calculated with the number of papers and citations. It is regarded to be a useful index based on both “quantity” and “quality” and the h-index has received a lot of attention from the scientific community. However some disadvantages are perceived because of the mathematically simplicity, and now we see more robust indices being proposed. It has become necessary to combine multiple indices for the well-advised evaluation as each index has limitations in its original setting.
