Abstract

Hitachi, Ltd. Systems Development Laboratory consolidated its three remote centers of excellence in new premises at Totsuka in August 2010, with two libraries relocated and integrated at the same time. We took the opportunity of re-examining library collections to make steady efforts in their reorganization. Large quantities of books and magazines were moved to the new library efficiently and stepwise, ensuring both increased speed and minimized errors. Libraries were open whenever possible to best serve users during the relocation. To offer a comfortable environment and improved usability for users, we exercised our ingenuity in new library design: provision of thorough signs and unified corners. Earthquake countermeasures taken in the new library focuses on materials anti-falling, including anchoring book stacks, covering the shelves with sheets, and lining up the collections in a special manner.
