Abstract

This paper aims to clarify the history evolution of planning thought and strategy about the coast resort in China. For this purpose, the planning thought, the location, maintenance process, utilization, landscape design were analyzed by doing the case study of the Dalian hoshigaura resort. The paper revealed the planning thought of attracting foreign tourists to Dalian which is a main regional developing policy practiced by South Manchuria. Because the site lies between the hill and coastline, bird's-eye view and human scale beach are outstanding characteristics. Through analyzing the landscape, island landscape unit, beach landscape unit, plaza landscape unit, resort landscape unit, lower slope of mountain landscape unit etc 5 units are conducted. Based on above conclusion, the develop circumstance of Chinese earliest colonial coast resort is clarified.
