Description
Dermatophytosis of the external auditory meatus is a very rare disease. Within otomycosis,86% is in the Aspergillus. We report five cases of dermatophytosis of the external auditory meatus. All the patients visited us because of severe itchiness in the external auditory meatus. Apart from Case 2, all the patients were affected with dermatophytosis in other parts of their body. An otoscopic examination revealed white cherumen in all of the cases and a KOH method revealed it to have numerous fungal elements. The fungal culture was identified as Trichophyton rubrum. Itraconazole treatment was very effective and all of the cases recovered completely.
