- Long-Term Drainage with T-Shaped Bile Duct Tube in Front-Ethmoidal Mucocele

T-shaped bile duct tubes were placed in the naso-frontal duct in patients with frontethmoidal mucocele after drainage by an extranasal approach. This tube was cut to fit the duct and sinus, while the superior half of the horizontal tube was cut to easily collect the discharge. Seven patients were treated with this partially cut T-shaped tube. The average intubation period with this tube was 28.2 months and the longest was 41 months. In one patient, the tube was safely removed at an outpatient clinic 4 months after surgery. There were no complications and no recurrence of mucocele in any of the seven cases. Thus, these results indicated that this tube was more effective in draining sinus discharge and was kept in place longer than the usual simple silicon tube or penrose-drainage tube. The Tshaped bile duct tube was a useful long-term drainage tube for the treatment of frontethmoidal mucocele.
