Abstract

A great variety of life science databases exist, but their diverse terminologies and data formats have hindered the integrative utilizations of themselves. To address the problem, the National Bioscience Database Center (NBDC) of JST and Database Center for Life Science (DBCLS) of the Research Organization of Information and Systems have been encouraging the research groups developing life science databases in Japan to adopt the RDF which is recognized as a promising technology to enhance the interoperability between databases and automated data processing. To improve the findability of those RDF, NBDC launched a new portal site, named NBDC RDF portal, which focuses on RDFized life science databases developed in Japan. This article introduces the portal site, and mentions beneficial features and a brief history of RDFized life science databases.
