Description
Seasonal affective disorder is triggered by lack of exposure of human eyes to solar rediation in winter. Fukui is an area that has short duration of sunshine in winter. This study used a questionnaire about students' sleep quality and depression in summer and winter. The Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS) was used to evaluate depression. For 117 students participated in this survey, the average SDS score was 43.0 in winter, while 42.3 in summer. These scores are higher than the average score of normal subjects in Japan. However, the average sleep time showed no difference in the two seasons.
