Abstract
We here report crystal engineering using face-to-face pi-pi interaction of anthracene moieties. Its interaction energy is estimated about 8 kcal/mol, which is comparative to that of hydrogen bond. First, we examine solvent effect in crystallization of 1,3-diphenyl-2-propanol. When benzene was used as solvent, polymorph was obtained, probably because benzene disturbed the pi-pi interaction between anthracenes. Next, crystalline inclusion host compounds bearing three-fold axis and three anthracene planes are designed and synthesized. It is revealed that those compounds include various guest component.
