Abstract
Marine organisms, the jellyfish Aequorea and the crustacean Vargula (Cypridina) show bioluminescence with characteristic heterocyclic compounds as substrates. To design a novel functional compound, we focus on the light-emitter molecules, amidopyrazines, of these bioluminescent systems. In this study, we designed boronamidopyrazine (BAP) [(amidopyrazinato)boron] as a novel fluorophore. We report here the synthesis and properties of BAP compounds having a substituted phenyl group systematically.
