Abstract
We have synthesized 1,3,5-tris(1-(3-butylimidazolio)methyl)-trimetylbenzene. And we have assessment that tripodal molecule with imidazolium group. In the result, we found out that the multi-armed molecules showed complexation with halide ions and the ratio of the complexation by the molecules we synthesized and the halide ions is 1:1. Host-guest complexization and liquid crystalline properties of novel multi-armed molecule with six imidazolium units 2 were investigated. The 1H-NMR titration experiment in CD3CN show a significant shift of im-2 protons to lower magnetic field by addition of Bu4N+Br-. The liquid crystalline properties of compound 2 are investigated by polarizing optical microscopy. Liquid crystalline phases were observed around 150Co. The phase transition temperatures of 2 are depending on the alkyl chain length and the counter ion.
