Abstract

In recent decades, much attention has been focused on the chemistry of multidentate ligands bearing soft and hard donors from the viewpoints of their catalytic and other activities. Although there are many reports on the chemistry of tris(2,4,6-trimethoxyphenyl)phosphine and tris(2,6-dimethoxyphenyl)phosphine, phosphine ligands tethered with three ether moieties have been less explored.<BR> At first, we report the synthesis of a new tripodal tetradentate ligand P(o-C6H4OPri)3 (1) bearing one phosphine and three ether moieties. Next, we examined the synthesis of complexes of the isopropyl-substituted ligand 1 with Pt and Pd. Treatment of 1 with [PtCl2(cod)] in benzene at reflux gave complex 2, where the ratio of Pt metal:ligand 1 1:2. Same as Pt, treatment of 1 with [PdCl2 (PhCN) 2] in benzene at r.t. gave complex 3 and 4, where the ratio of Pd metal:ligand 1 is 1:2 and 1:1 (Scheme 1). The X-ray crystallography of 2 and 3 revealed the square planar structure around the Pt and Pd atom in 2 and 3.
