On the Numerical Simulation of Flow Field behind Rotating Blades

Description

In order to obtain the viscous flow with the effect of rotating blades, the method that the rotating blades are represented by putting equivalent body force terms into the Navier-Stokes (N-S) equations has been applied recently. Several kinds of body force distribution methods for the propeller have been proposed by different researchers. In this paper, the influence of the difference among body force distributions of a propeller on the flow behind the propeller is examined at first. A new method is proposed by taking the boss effect into consideration, and the calculated results of the velocity distributions behind the propeller are in closer agreement with the experiments near the propeller shaft. Next, this method is also applied to the flow behind an impeller in a cylinder with a stator. The influence of the stator and the clearance between the cylinder and the impeller tip is also investigated. Lastly, the characteristics of the flow around a propeller and the flow through an impeller are discussed.
