Abstract

In very first stages of hull structural design and planning, only limited ship characteristic information, such as C_b, l_<cb> and principal dimensions is available. Even in that stage of hull design, the external force and moment, in still water and in waves are significant keys to evaluation of structural strength and hull weight estimation. We have proposed to apply the mathematically expressed hull form to evaluation of sea load, such as bending moment, force and pressure against hull structure. The present studies concentrate to obtain the fundamental characteristics of ship in waves by mathematically formulated hull. The comparisons of the results by mathematically formulated hull have shown very good agreement with those by actual hull form and obtained the applicability of this method for evaluation of wave load in the very first stage of hull design.
