In order to estimate the influence of very large floating structure on marine environment, it is necessary to know behavior of water surrounding the floating structure. In particular, it is important to evaluate water exchange under the floating structure. To evaluate this, we adopt water particles tracing method used by Imasato and Awaji (1982), to the numerical simulation program which calculates water circulation around the very large floating structure. We take a rectangular bay with floating structure at the center of the bay as model sea-area, and simulate water circulation in the bay. We obtained remnant function on the area under the floating structure to evaluate water mass exchange, and calculate it in various conditions. We obtained these conclusion: 1) Floating structure advances water exchange under the structure both in summer and winter. 2) There is no remarkable difference between temporal variations of remnant function in summer and that in winter. There are, however, large differences between the spatial distributions of water particles at final state of calculation. They correspond well to the velocity fields of tidal residual currents in each conditions. 3) In winter, we found differences between the temporal variation of remnant function computed from the result of the calculation with daily variation of solar radiation and that with no daily variation. This result suggests that it is necessary to consider daily variation of solar radiation in the simulation of the water circulation around a very large floating structure.
