Abstract

Analytic method of the conical shells unclosed in circumferential direction, is similar to the one of the cylindrical shells, but is more complicated. This paper shows the simplified analytic method of unclosed "conical shells by using the stress function φ. In this method the stresses and the displacements are developed into Fourier series in circumferential direction, so it is applicable in the conical shell simply supported at the longitudinal boundary. An example has been calculated by this method and at the end of this paper the results are shown, compared to the one by the more precise method by W. Flugge. It is found that there are no remarkable deviation between the corresponding distribution curves of stresses and displacements by the above two methods.
