Abstract
Catalytic transformations of cellulose under hydrogenolysis were investigated. Tansition metals (Ir, Pd, Pt, Rh, Ru, Re) catalyzed hydrothermal reactions of cellulose under hydrogen pressure to provide C2-C6 alcohols and C2-C6 diols. The major products on an Ir catalyst were primary C2-C6 alcohols and C2-C6 diols with ca. 20% and 10% yields, respectively. The products of 1-hexanol (11%), and ethyleneglycol (4%) were selectively formed.
