Abstract
We modify the so-called voxel methods, which use pixel or voxel type regular FEM meshes, by combined use of a discontinuous Galerkin FEM (DGFEM) based on 2D low-order polygonal elements. In the proposed approach, most of the domain to be analyzed is decomposed into uniform rectangular classical elements, but near-boundary regions are done into polygonal DG elements, so that the true boundary is much better represented than the original rectangular meshes. We explain the proposed method and give some numerical results to see its validity and effectiveness. <br>
