Abstract
Parallel cables are often subject to wake-induced vibration. It is categorized into wake galloping of near-wake vibration and wake flutter of far-wake vibration. Past wind-tunnel study showed that wake galloping occurred typically for parallel cables with their distant of around 4 times diameter and small angle of attack while wake flutter for them with the distant of more than 8 times diameter and the angle of attack of 5-15 degrees. In addition, another wind-tunnel test showed that small wires closely-spaced attached to the main cable suppressed wake flutter. In this study, vibration mechanism of wake-induced vibration of parallel cables was investigated by a wind-tunnel test with measuring the surface pressure around cables. It also studied the suppression mechanism of wake flutter by small wires.
