Abstract
We consider steady waves with wavenumber k and phase velocity v propagating in an anisotropic elastic plate or a layered plate attached to a half-space to an assigned direction. These waves with parameter k exhibit velocity dispersion v=v(k). We are interested in such a branch v=v(k) that v(k) converges the Rayleigh velocity or the Stoneley velocity as k approaches infinity. The problem of determining v=v(k) is reduced to a certain eigenvalue problem of ODE with parameter k. We use the theory of matrix polynomials, to obtain detailed asymptotic behavior of the above-mentioned v(k) as k approaches infinity.
