Description
To evaluate pore fluid flow inside granular assembly, we developed a microscale permeability simulation procedure. Grain packing was obtained by discrete element method simulation. Then, DEM simulation result converted to a 3D surface model of the grain packing. The calculation mesh was generated outside the 3D surface model, i.e. pore space. A series of permeability simulation was carried out to evaluate effect of mesh resolution and specimen size on the calculated hydraulic conductivities. Moreover, we found that permeability simulations using various porosities were in good agreement with Kozeny-Carman equation.
