Abstract
From previous researches, the generation mechanisms of the aerodynamic vibration phenomenon of stay cables are considered as a water rivulet formed on the cable surface during at rainfall, an axial flow formed in the wake and unsteady and three dimensional characteristics of the Karman vortex. However, the aerodynamic cable vibration is complex and many unclarification has been left. Basing on these points, in this paper, the authors observed the axial flow on the real stay cable and conducted the various wind tunnel tests. Then, the effects of the axial flow on the aerodynamic vibration of the stay-cable are discussed. Moreover, the relation between Karman vortices and Galloping instability is considered.
