Description
The stress difference to prevent solvent movement through a semi-permeable membrane in solutions is denoted the osmotic pressure. The osmotic pressure has a significant influence on bio-fluid phenomena as the material exchange between circulating blood and body tissues. In case of a dilute solution in equilibrium state, the relation of osmotic pressure to the solute concentration difference is known as van't Hoff law. However, a more general relation satisfied in a variety of cases including non-equilibrium or non-dilute solution has not been obtained so far. As an basic study to obtain the general relation of the osmotic pressure, in the present study we reconsider the osmotic pressure from the point of dynamical view, propose the formulae of osmotic pressure, then examine the formulae in the simple system of a membrane and solutions using molecular dynamics.
