Abstract
A concept of digging out and painting on a girdle part of round brilliant has been introduced in the appraising standard in Japanese diamond trade.
Basically the round brilliant cut is a three dimensional object and so the appraisal has to be done in this point of view. Therefore, this introduction is more suitable for appraisal of the round brilliant cut diamond.
But there are some ambiguous points in the appraising practice on the digging out and painting.
We make some proposal resolving the ambiguousness of the appraising and also we discuss the effect of digging out and painting on an optical appearance and on weight retention.
