抄録

Immersed tunnels with flexible joints which connect the submerged elements have been considered to be a rational structural system in the soft surface ground against severe earthquakes. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of the flexible joints of such structures against earthquakes. Analytical models were proposed to calculate the response of the structures due to ground motion. Parametric studies were carried out in terms of the characteristics of reinforced concrete elements, flexible joints, ground conditions, and etc. The mechanical behavior of the flexible joints which consisted of the rubber and high strength tendons was obtained through the experimental study.<br>It was clarified that the proposed analytical models could evaluate the effects of flexible joints quantitatively in relation to the various parameters. Procedures and noticeable matters of the seismic design of immersed tunnels were briefly described.
