Abstract

A density gradient is occurred on vertical density distribution in the compacted layer for a thick-layer compaction method, which is aiming to improve an efficiency of construction of highway embankment. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a quality control standard, clarifying influence of the density gradient on a stability and settlement of the embankment. In this paper, changes in the density gradient of a compacted layer occurred by thick-layer compaction is studied based on a series of field compaction tests. Furthermore, influence of the density gradient on the stability of embankment is evaluated quantitatively at various density gradients, and a quality control standard is proposed.
